Modules and lessons

How to build the structure of a course: the modules, the lesson types, the ordering, and the settings that decide what a member actually sees.

Updated October 2026

A course has two levels: modules that hold lessons. The module is the chapter, the lesson is the content. It all happens in the Build tab once you’ve opened the course under Courses.

The course tabs

When you open a course, the tabs sit across the top:

  • Build — modules and lessons. Everything you build lives here.
  • Presentation — title, description, cover.
  • Participants — who has access and how far they’ve got.
  • Cohorts — groups with a shared start, if the course should have them.
  • Results — what gets watched and where people stop.
  • Settings — offers, certificates, SEO and prerequisites.

Create a module

  1. Open the course and go to Build.
  2. Click Add module.
  3. Give it a name you’d say out loud: “Week 1”, “Breathing”, “When it’s hard”.
  4. Save.

Keep modules to three to seven lessons. A module with twenty lessons looks like a mountain.

Reordering

Modules move with the up and down arrows in the module menu — not by dragging. Lessons, on the other hand, you can drag, both within a module and across to another one.

Create a lesson

  1. Click Add lesson inside a module.
  2. Give the lesson a title.
  3. Choose what it holds:
TypeWhat it is
VideoA film you upload.
AudioAn audio file — for meditations, episodes, exercises.
TextWritten text with formatting and images.
PDFA file the member reads or downloads.
QuizQuestions with right and wrong answers. See Quizzes in courses.
AssignmentSomething the participant hands in to you.
PresentationSlides from Google Slides, Canva or similar.
  1. Fill in the content and save.

Lesson settings

Every lesson has three switches in its status card:

  • Published — an unpublished lesson isn’t visible to the member. A common mistake is a published course whose lessons are still drafts.
  • Free preview — the lesson is open to everyone, including people who haven’t bought. Good as a taster on a sales page.
  • Require previous lesson completion to unlock — locks the lesson until the one before is done.

Attachments

To attach a workbook, a recipe or a practice schedule, do it in the lesson, in the Attachments field. Upload the file (up to 50 MB) or paste a URL, and give it a file name that says what it is.

Release the content gradually

If you want modules to open over time rather than all at once, see Drip scheduling. It’s set per module in the Build tab, not in Settings.

Before you’re done

Open the course as a member, not as yourself. Log in to app.idun.blue with a different account and go through module one. That’s where you find the lesson that accidentally stayed a draft.

Tips

  • One idea per lesson.
  • Write titles that promise something concrete. “How to breathe when it hurts” beats “Lesson 3”.
  • Keep the first lesson in each module short with a quick win. That’s where people decide to keep going.
