Certificates

Turn the feature on, design the template, and understand exactly when a certificate is issued — and what blocks it.

Updated October 2026

A certificate is the proof a participant gets when the whole course is done. It’s generated automatically and lands in her profile in the member app.

Turn the feature on first

Certificates are off in a new workspace. If you can’t find a Certificates tab, that’s why — not because something is broken.

Go to Settings → Features and turn on Certificates. Certificates now appears under Courses in the menu, and the setting appears in the course.

Enable it for a course

  1. Open the course under Courses.
  2. Go to the Settings tab.
  3. Turn on Enable certificates.
  4. Under Trigger on there is currently one choice: Course completion.
  5. Pick a Template — the default one, or one you’ve made.

Design the template

Templates live under Courses → Certificates, in the Certificate templates section. Click Create certificate template.

The fields are:

  • Title — the big text. “Certificate”, “Diploma”.
  • Body text — the sentence under the title. This is where you use variables that fill themselves in: {member_name}, {course_name} and {date}. The default is {member_name} has completed {course_name}.
  • Signature (text) and Signature (image URL) — type your name, or point at an image of your signature.
  • Logo URL — the address of your logo. It’s a URL field, not an uploader: upload the image to Media & files first and paste the link.
  • Background color and Accent color — two colours, no more.
  • Font family — eight to choose from, from Inter to Cormorant Garamond.
  • Layout — Landscape or Portrait.

Keep it simple. A certificate with one colour and plenty of air looks more expensive than one with a border, a pattern and three fonts.

What has to happen before it’s issued

The certificate is issued when the participant has:

  1. completed every published lesson in the course, and
  2. passed every quiz in the course.

The second one is easy to miss. If you have a quiz with a high pass mark, or a quiz with a wrongly marked answer, nobody gets their certificate — and they’ll contact you about it, not us. Take the course yourself with a test account before you launch.

What the participant gets

In the member app, Certificates sits in her menu. There she can:

  • Download the certificate,
  • print it,
  • share it through her phone’s normal share sheet or by copying the link.

Every certificate has its own certificate number and an eight-character verification code, so its authenticity can be checked.

What certificates don’t do

So you don’t go looking:

  • You can’t revoke an issued certificate.
  • You can’t create certificates retroactively for people who already finished the course. Certificates are issued forward, from the day you turn them on.
  • There’s no background image — only a background colour.
  • There’s no ready-made LinkedIn share button. The participant downloads the file and posts it herself.

Tips

  • Mention the certificate on the sales page. For some buyers it’s half the reason.
  • Use a real signature as an image. It does more for the feel than any font choice.
  • Set the pass marks on your quizzes before you turn certificates on, not after.
